The first cup game
saw them lose a tough game away to Hellenic Fisher (played
at Thrapston) 3 - 2. Thrapston took the lead midway through
the first half with a penalty converted by Kieran Moore, awarded
after a push in the box. Hellenic drew level shortly afterwards,
then just before half time took the lead after some sloppy
defending by the away side. After the interval Hellenic pressured
for their third but couldn’t finish, with some good
saves by the Thrapston keeper, Harry Allington. Half way through
the second half, a goal by Kai Robinson made it 2 –
2 and set up the game for an exciting finish. Hellenic piled
on the pressure and broke the deadlock with 6 minutes remaining,
which was enough to see them through. A very entertaining
game, with both sets of supporters warmed by the good play
throughout.
The managed to win
through to the next round of the Burton Cup beating Castle
Rise. Thrapston were made to work hard for their 1 –
0 win over Castle Rise. Jonathon Lawrence scored Thrapston’s
only goal from an Adam Hope through ball. Final score 1 -
0.
The put up a good
fight against Corby Danesholme eventually losing 3 - 2. A
very entertaining match with good football from both teams.
Danesholme struck with an early goal after Thrapston started
hesitantly. However they were soon back into the game with
a well organised break, ending with a low shot from Ali Jones.
Danesholme created better chances and scored two more before
the half time interval. The second half was totally different
game with Thrapston having most of the possession and dominating
the game. Daneholmes defence battled well and their goalkeeper
pulled off some good saves. Thrapston scored again with only
2 minutes remaining from a swinging Ben Allington corner,
volleyed home by Ali Jones; but it was too late in the match
for Thrapston to come back.
The were beaten at
home to Higham Town 0 - 2. In a very even game, Higham were
0 – 1 up at half time with Thrapston missing their chances.
The same second half saw Higham add another and Thrapston
not taking their chances.
The won again this
time at away at Northborough 3 - 6. Thrapston started well
with some good play and were first to score with Ben Smith
opening up the Northborough defence. The home side clawed
back into the game with two good goals making it 1 - 2 at
half time. The second half started well again with a lot of
good movement and passing, with Thrapston hitting the target
with goals by Dan Marsh and then Marc Harrison. The visitors
continued to push and found the back of net again with Dan
Marsh and Ben Smith who found himself in some good space on
the left. Northborough caught Thrapston on the counter attack
to close the gap, but after making a couple of subsitutions,
Thrapston got back on top of the game with Tom Allen scoring.
Northborough were a good team and the match was a pleasure
to watch.
