The
under 15's got back to winning
ways beating Whittlesey Athletic 2 - 3. A game of two
halves with the wind in Thrapston's favour enabling them to
dominate the first half Thrapston strung together some good
passing and there was good commitment from the away team.
Tom Purdy made a clear run down the right and finished with
a good goal. Thrapston pushed for more goals, Marc Harrison
scoring their second with a clear half volley which was hit
into the back of the net. 2-0 at half time.
The second half saw Thrapston playing against the wind,
therefore Athletic pinned them back into their own half for
much of the time. The away side then gave away a free kick
from which Athletic scored. The wind continued to cause problems
preventing Thrapston from clearing their lines. Next the Athletic
keeper kicked a long clearance, which bounced once and headed
toward the Thrapston area. The Thrapston goal keeper attempted
to get the ball but was clearly fouled with a push in the
back, but the referee saw nothing illegal in the challenge
and awarded the goal. That made the game 2 - 2.
Thrapston then battled to find the winner pushing forward
at all opportunity, which paid off when Ben Smith hit the
target to secure the points.
Difficult conditions, and some uncertain referee and linesman
decisions, but Thrapston came away satisfied with the result.
A good performance following last week's disappointing result.
Final score 2 - 3.
