Under 10's Tornadoes Match Report - 11th January 2004 v Ise Lodge Eagles

The Under 10's Tornadoes were beaten 2 - 1 by a last minute goal by Ise Lodge Eagles

Having been one of only two teams to take a point from The Eagles in the first half of the season, this game was always going to be close and tense…and so it turned out.

The Eagles soared early and seized the initiative, as the Tornadoes were slow to stir from their slumbers. Sluggish defending saw Jordon Mahon called upon several times to dive bravely at the feet of threatening forwards, but it was all to no avail as after 5 minutes the Tornadoes went behind when an in swinging corner beat everyone at the near post.

1-0 down at such an early stage could have proved ominous, however the Tornadoes whirled into action and fought their way back into the game. Mathew Hansord and Liam Carter began to assert themselves in defence, and the midfield of William Morrison, Ryan Wright and Cameron Glynn harried and hurried the normally imperious Eagles – if there was to be a battle these boys were fighting fit. Finally, mention of Ryan Caller who worked tirelessly up front on his own - he may not have had rich pickings today but the Eagles defence will certainly know they’ve been “Called-on”.

So at half time we found ourselves one goal behind but with confidence and performance in the ascendancy the second half promised rich entertainment. A few words of wisdom from the coaching staff and we were away, and we were away to a dream start. Within a minute we had drawn level when the Ryan’s’ combined to create for the Wright finish – game on, and deservedly so!

The game ebbed and flowed as both sets of supporters cheered on their little gladiators. Neither team were prepared to concede defeat but the Tornadoes were finding the going tougher, uphill and against the wind. Ross Munro took to the field - fresh legs for a battling midfield. However luck was to turn cruelly against the Tornadoes in the dying minutes, when after losing possession in midfield an unstoppable rocket shot flew past the despairing dive of Mahon. To the teams credit they did not cave in but kept pushing for an equaliser right to the final whistle.

This was an excellent team performance against maybe the best team in this league. If the team is to be judged against the best around we are certainly in for a place in the champions league come the end of the season.

Parents Player of the Match: Liam Carter.
