The drew
1 - 1 with Weekley.
Was it the wind up or the wind down as the season ends that
gave this match that flat feeling that it is hard to describe?
Whatever the reason the Tornadoes battled against the elements
and a competitive Weekley team to achieve yet another draw.
There were lots of good things to see in this match –
determined tackling, good passing, flowing attacks, exquisite
skills and that ‘never say die’ attitude. The
Tornadoes never looked as though they should lose this match
as they dominated the game throughout; however on the other
hand, it was hard to believe that they would actually go on
to win the match.
Uphill and against the wind for the first half led for some
tricky moments but on the whole the Tornadoes dealt with them
comfortably. In attack they countered sublimely and crafted
several excellent chances without any luck at all. Yet again
the Tornadoes received a sucker punch and towards the end
of the first half conceded a rather soft goal – a Weekley
forward was allowed to progress through weak challenges and
his cross shot was prodded in at the back post. Not a fair
reflection on the game.
The second half was pretty much one-way traffic as the Tornadoes
laid assault on the Weekley goal. Chances created and chances
missed was the script, until the ever persistent Ryan Wright
crossed for William Gadsby to prod the ball home at the far
post. The cavalry charge came but no John Wayne as a hero,
though several tried their darnedest.
One defeat since Xmas and some notable scalps on the way
– the boys have done good.
