The lost 2 - 3 at home
to Rushden Rangers.
Keen to get back to wining ways Thrapston started the game
full of enthusiasm forcing Rushden Rangers to defend from
the whistle with the whole team keeping the pressure on. Just
reward soon came with Luke Cottage scoring his first league
goal since joining the team 18 months ago and what a goal!
Shooting from well outside the 18-yard box the Rushden Keeper
was left wondering where the ball came from as it curled into
the top corner of the net.
Undeterred Rushden pushed back and gradually gained more
possession until a break caught Thrapston defence out of position
allowing the away team to level the score. 1-1. Thrapston
kept their heads up and took control of the game again dominating
much of the play with Andrew Meadway and Daniel Smith working
hard in central defence to thwart any Rushden attack.
A long kick from Keeper Paul Spicker, struggling to keep
warm in the torrential rain set up the forwards and Reece
Evans made it 2-1. As half time approached the whole team
struggled to keep the momentum going as the wet and cold set
in.
Rushden came out fighting in the second half and quickly
evened the score taking advantage once again of an unorganised
defence. 2-2. All credit to Thrapston as they continued to
dominate much of the field with half a dozen opportunities
coming close to making it 3-2, instead, Rushden putting some
short passes together slid the ball across the goal into the
corner of the net to make it 2-3.
The last seconds of the game and Jack Rawcliffe made a fast
run in from the wing beating all but one defender, one on
one, a late tackle and Jack was sprawling on the ground in
side the box, Penalty! Reece Evans stepped up to take the
last touch of the game and thundered the ball towards the
goal, Rushden breathed a sigh of relief as Keeper beaten it
skimmed over the bar. Final score 2 - 3.
