The were beaten 3
- 2 away at Grange United in a closely fought game.
Was this the same team that beat Grange 6-2 last week? In
body may be but not in spirit. Never really coming to terms
with the muddy ground and a ball that would not run, the third
victory on the trot was not to be. Chances for Thrapston came
from individual breaks rather than team effort and all to
often ended up in a dog fight in the Grange goal mouth, Keeper
beaten, face down in the mud, defenders in disarray, but some
how the last touch almost always fell to Grange.
Paul Spicker kept the Thrapston defence together with Luke
Cottage holding his own on the wing and an evermore confident
Daniel Smith worked well with Paul in the middle of the park.
Grange were not going to suffer the defeat of last week, while
their defence still struggled, the attack was quick and effective
once on the break, with good passing and movement they soon
scored the first of three, breaching Thrapston’s defence
to leave Keeper Matthew Watts feeling very isolated as the
ball whipped past into the net for the only first half goal.
Another goal line struggle with the Grange defence in panic
and Kyle Fox scored his first of the season to make it 1-1.
Back came Grange to take the lead again. 2-1.
With Patrick Goulbourn coming on in the second half Andrew
Bird moved up from defence to replace Jack Rawcliffe in attack.
Another goalmouth struggle and the super versatile Andrew
Bird pushed the ball over the line to equalise again for Thrapston.
2-2. Full credit to Andy who this season has played Keeper,
Defence, Midfield and Attack Well done Andrew.
More fine passing from the Grange front men soon had the ball
in the net again taking it to the final score, 3-2.
Surprise of the match has to be Callum Mcdermott taking on
three players, running 40 yards from the half way line to
slot the ball through to the forwards but alas no joy. Lets
have some more of that Callum.
A disappointing result after last week but the new team jackets
should do the trick next week!
