The beat Oakley Lodge
2 -1 at home.
First signs were not good as Oakley pushed forward during
the initial 5 minutes stopping any movement Thrapston made
to mount an offensive challenge. As Thrapston players settled
down and concerns faided at not having top scorer Reece Evans
available to play, the team worked hard across the whole field.
Not the best football the Under Elevens have played this season
but effective enough to stop Oakley threatening Keeper Matthew
Watts on too many occasions. Better shape from the Thrapston
defence, taking advantage of playing the opposition off side
numerous times and some hard work from Matti Watts kept the
game even well into the first half.
A lapse in concentration saw three of the back four drawn
in to an Oakley Forward as Matti came off his line to close
down the same player, a pass back to an unmarked Oakley Forward
in front of an open goal, a simple tap home and Thrapston
were one goal down at the end of the first half.
Undeterred Thrapston kept working hard and gained more of
the possession in the second half. Finally the goal came from
a Kyle Fox corner well placed into the six yard box, a poor
clearance from Oakley was snapped up by Carlos Lewis, chesting
the ball down and finishing with a left footed half volley,
shaving Jack Rawcliffe before hitting the net.
Not to be robbed of a goal Jack made it 2-1 to Thrapston picking
up on a long through ball and finishing with a great run to
beat a couple of defenders and the Oakley Keeper. Not bad
for someone who was in hospital the day before with suspected
appendicitis. Well done Jack.
A tough game but hopefully the lads have learnt that if they
keep their heads up they can come out winning against the
odds.
