The lost 2 - 3 at
home to Rothwell Aztec.
Aztec started the brighter scoring after 2 minutes, the Thrapston
defence failing to clear a through ball. Aztec kept up the
pressure but some determined defending kept the away side
at bay. Thrapston equalised mid-way through the half, Matt
Wright running onto a long free kick by Ryan Gavin and crossing
on the left for Keiran Moore finish, after an initial save
by the keeper. The game remained at 1 – 1 until the
half time whistle blew.
Once again, as they have done all season, Thrapston conceded
an early goal in the second half after some poor defending
allowed Rothwell to poke the ball home. Thrapston went further
behind with 10 minutes remaining following a long-range effort
from a free kick. The home side kept battling, looking to
close the gap but couldn't finish after a couple of chances.
Ryan Gavin went close from a free kick, the ball just over
the bar. The highlight of the match was a scorching half volley
from 30 yards out by Ryan, which gave the Aztec keeper no
chance. Unfortunately, the goal came too late in the match
and the final score ended up 2 – 3.
Despite the defeat, there were encouraging signs for the
remainder of the season.
