The continued their
impressive start to the season beating Orchard Park 6 - 2.
Thrapston U14’s continued their good run of results
despite an indifferent first half performance. Orchard Park
took a well-deserved lead early in the match. Orchard Park
played good passing football that belied their bottom of the
table position and Thrapston appeared unable to cope with
it. Thrapston were unable to clear and the subsequent cross/shot
looped over Sammy Cobley and in to the net.
Thrapston were rattled but continued to look dangerous with
the prolific Chris Meadway running at the Park defence. It
was inevitable that Meadway scored as he latched on to a through
ball to slip it passed the keeper. Soon after Thrapston took
the lead with Meadway scoring again despite Orchard having
the best of the possession and playing the better football.
Meadway completed his hat trick before halftime after again
latching on to a through ball this time from Jack Nicholson.
The second half promised further goals but it was Orchard
Park who pulled a goal back soon after the break after a defence
mix up. Thrapston began to play better and the defence grew
more confident with some powerful headers from White, Gough
and Wildman. Ali Jones began to look dangerous down the left
wing linking up well with Chris Meadway and Jones was unlucky
to have a goal disallowed, when the goalkeeper was adjudged
to have been fouled.
Thrapston continued to break and Meadway scored his fourth
taking his seasons tally to 17. Orchard began to look a little
demoralised and substitute Robert Blades made some good runs
down the right wing linking well with right Back Liam Bulmer.
Thrapston scored a fifth through David Cunningham after a
pass from Ali Jones, Cunningham beat a defender and his shot
went through the keeper in to the corner of the net. Thrapston
finished the scoring with a great individual goal from Sam
Gough, who broke down the right hand side from the halfway
line and following a jinking run lashed home a shot from a
from 20 yards and an acute angle.
A fine result, which keeps the pressure on Westfield at the
top of the table but Thrapston must improve on this performance
if they hope to take the title from Westfield.
