The opening match of
2004 saw them slip to a narrow defeat to Castle Rise losing
2 - 1.
The game started with both sides very evenly matched, but
it didn’t take long for “Birthday Boy” Charlie
Coulson to get into the game and he was unlucky not to score
on a number of occasions, his best effort rebounding off the
post to safety. Man of the Match Ben Welman was also unlucky
when a goal bound shot was well saved by the Castle Rise keeper.
Later in the half the Thrapston defence was broken and Tim
Sawford had no chance with the resulting shot. 1 nil to Castle
rise.
Thrapston started the second half the stronger team and were
soon on level terms when Luke Stevens shot from outside the
box to bury the ball in the bottom corner of the net for his
11th goal of the season. Despite being on top for the most
of the second half Thrapston were unable to increase their
lead. However, for the second time in the match the Thrapston
defence was no where to be found when Castle Rise broke through
and despite an excellent save by Tim Sawford the rebound was
slotted home into an unguarded net.
Final Score: Castle Rise 2, Thrapston Town Juniors 1
