The beat Irchester
1 - 3.
After yet another weeks break, Thrapston again returned to
action to record their ninth win of the season
With the rain beginning to fall and a biting wind blowing
across the pitch, both sets of players were glad to see the
start of the game. Thrapston dominated the game right from
the start with Jamie Gambrell and Declan Ward both working
very hard and creating chances. It only took Thrapston 3 mins
to break through and score when Jamie Gambrell’s shot
squirmed through the keepers legs to make it one nil. Good
defending and tackling by both Niall Mitchell and Josh Smikle
prevented any serious shots on goal. In the 6th minute Declan
Ward was fouled in the penalty area, but the penalty kick
was well saved by the Irchester goalkeeper. Irchester equalised
when a miss kick by the Thrapston keeper saw Irchester put
the ball into the empty net. However this was not to dampen
the Thrapston spirit and right on the stroke of half time
Declan Ward broke through to restore the lead. Half time score
Thrapston 2 Irchester 1.
Although the rain relented in the second half the effort
put in by both teams did not. Thrapston again dominated this
half but a number of good saves by the Irchester keeper prevented
Thrapston from increasing their lead. Despite this Thrapston
kept the pressure on and Ben Welman was unlucky not to score
when he stole in at the far post, only to see his shot miss
the goal by inches. Thrapston wrapped the game up with a couple
of minutes to go, when breaking from the half way line Declan
Ward hit an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner
of the Irchester net.
Final Score;- Thrapston Town 3 – Irchester 1
