The continued their
winning ways with a fine 4 – 2 victory over Higham Colts.
Thrapston started the game well and the Higham defensive
line was soon to be breached. Jamie Gambrell opening the scoring
with a fine shot. This was closely followed by a fine move
started by Josh Smikle who passed to Jamie which ended with
a quick pass to Luke Stevens who fired the ball past the Higham
keeper to make it two nil. Within a minute Thrapston were
three up when a super shot from outside the area by Luke Stevens
gave the Higham keeper no chance. Only fine goalkeeping by
the Higham keeper prevented Thrapston from increasing their
lead. Higham managed to get a goal back with a fine shot,
which left Jake Woods with no chance.
Thrapston continued to pressurise in the second half and
were unlucky not to score when a great individual piece of
skill saw Man of the Match, Josh Smikle break out of defence
and beat a couple of Higham player before sending a great
cross into the box only to see Jamie Gambrell miss the ball
by inches. Higham began to get in to the game and forced Thrapston
into some serious defensive play. This pressure was rewarded
when an unmarked Higham player put a well-delivered corner
away. Higham sensed the possibility of an equaliser and pushed
very hard, but the game was decided when, with a couple of
minutes to go Jamie Gambrell scored his second and Thrapston’s
fourth from an acute angle.
