Under 9's Match Report - 14th March 2004 v Generals

The Under 9's won 3 - 4 against Kettering Generals.

Confidence was brimming from the Thrapston team after a recent run of good results.
The Windy conditions and a skilful Generals side were not going to make it easy though in this sunday morning contest.
Thrapston started downhill with the wind against. Some strong play in the midfield from Josh Cummins and Jordan Bateman kept the ball under Thrapstons control for the first 5 minutes. The first goal of the game came Thrapstons way when the ball came across the area, and Luke Rivett put pressure on the keeper to thump into the net. Within seconds of the restart the generals broke away, some skilful play saw the last defender wanting, and the ball was blasted past the Thrapston keeper. Thrapston were then under pressure, and only some good defending from Connor Morson and braveness of Alex Vitue in the Thrapston goal kept them in the game. Thrapston had several more chances in the first half which came and went, and then there was the sucker punch just on the stroke of half time. Again the Generals forwards rounded the last man, and one v one with the keeper slotted in. Half time 1-2.

The second half saw the introduction of Tom Alsop the Thrapston Top scorer. He was soon in the action and within minutes had scored his 20th of the season and levelled the tie at 2 a piece. This was all Thrapston kicking uphill but with the wind. Seconds later a big kick from the Thrapston keeper found Alsop, who sweetly passed to Sam Gallagher to smash home. End to end stuff followed, and the thrapston defence was put under more and more pressure. Both sides had several chances that were not taken, but a scrambled goal from Luke Rivett made it 4-2 Thrapston . Surely it was all over now. Not Likely - A wild shot from the generals midfield soared high into the air. The shot was going into row 'z', but the spin on the ball and the wind curled it back round towards the thrapston goal. The keeper parried the ball - not unlike Tim Howard - and the ball was slotted home by Generals to keep the last couple of minutes interesting.
The town managed to hang on though for a deserved win. Final Score

Thrapston 4 - Kettering Generals 3
