The lost 2 - 1 to Burton
Youth with Jordan Bateman getting Thrapston's goal.
De ja vous.......
The scoreline was the same when these teams last met earlier
in the season.
A cold wet day on a muddy pitch made life difficult for both
teams, combined with the disruptuion of the league program
due to weather over the last few weeks. Silky skills were
not in fashion, today it was foot in and stamina that was
the name of the game. This battle at Weekly could have been
Waterloo, with the sides so evenly matched. The first half
was an end to end battle, only being disrupted by an SOS call
to Connor Morson to come on as cover for the injured Josh
Scarbrow. No goals but plenty of good solid play by both teams
as the ref blew the half time whistle.
The Second half was tougher with Thrapston having to kick
uphill, The chance was there for the winner to take it all
as Burton sent wave after wave of attack towards the Thrapston
goal. Several massive challenges by Sam Gallagher and Josh
Scarbrow, back on after his knock kept the sides level.
A cross from the Burton winger then deflected off Gallagher
to land in the back of the net. O.G. No heads went down, cries
of Gimme Gimme Gimme went up as the Thrapston team looked
for the ball and began to put pressure back on Burton. A lucky
break for Burton left their influential, and strong No 11
on a 1 v 1 with Alex Vitue the Thrapston keeper. The ball
was slid under the advancing keeper for a 2-0 lead to Burton.
From the re-start a clever ball played out to Jordan Bateman
on the wing, who rode a challenge, and then sent an unstoppable
shot from outside the area to give Thrapston some hope. Mamma
Mia what a goal . ( Also scored last time these 2 teams met
)
The final whistle came all too soon , and the game was over.
A great game from both sides in very testing conditions.
Final score : Burton Youth 2 Thrapston Town 1
Players View
The pitch was very muddy and the weather was cold.
Josh Scarbrow was injured in the first few minutes, and was
replaced by Connor Morson.
Good tackling by Thrapston even though the Burton No 11 was
10 foot tall.
Unlucky own goal from Sam Gallagher from a Burton cross.Good
goal from Jordan Bateman from 25yds.
We got a lot of free throw ins because Burton kept doing foul
throws.
Sam Gallagher + Alex Vitue
