The won their penultimate
game of the season 0 - 6 against Weekley Rovers Black.
Oh to be in England now that spring is here - freezing temperatures
and driving rain made for interesting playing conditions in
this game between sides that have been closely matched in
previous encounters this season.
Thrapston began the game in confident mood, and were passing
the ball around in midfield with great aplomb. Early chances
were created, but unfortunately missed, as Thrapston again
lacked that killer punch in front of goal, which has cost
them dearly on several occasions this season.
Then, almost from nothing Thrapston grabbed the lead. Tom
Alsop ran at the Blacks defence, was tackled and the ball
broke loose to Josh Cummins, 15 yards from goal. He hit the
ball with minimal fuss, first time and it flew past the surprised
keeper - one nil. That’s the way it stayed until half
time, but this, as they say, was to indeed turn out to be
a game of two halves.
Early in the second half, Thrapston pressed forward and as
the ball crossed the penalty area Jordan Davies was on hand
to score his first goal for the club, much to the delight
of the assembled masses, or more specifically his dad!
Better was come from Davies, now oozing confidence, as he
took the ball on, before releasing a perfect pass to Alsop
who smashed the ball home for number 3. This was the first
goal in a month for top scorer Alsop who celebrated a return
to goal scoring form by then completing a second half hatrick
inside 5 minutes, with two more efforts in to the corner of
the net from the edge of the box.
More was to come; Sam Gallagher met an Alsop corner on the
volley, only to see it saved brilliantly by the keeper. The
rebound he then hit against the cross bar, before ramming
home the rebound from that effort for number 6.
Performance of the season? Quite possibly, and certainly
in terms of passing, which is what made the difference between
the two sides in this match.
Final Score – Weekley Rovers Black Nil, Thrapston Six.
