The kept up their 100%
record with a win over Aztec Braves 6 - 0.
A balmy, late September day; a crowd, short-sleeved and expectant;
a team ready to fulfil it’s potential at last, with
exotic summer signings mixing with seasoned performers, in
a heady mix of samba football. Thus the scene was set, as
the teams entered the coliseum - let battle commence.
The first half was a scrappy affair; Thrapston all huff and
puff, often over elaborated and lacked a killer punch. Their
defence meanwhile displayed that now familiar meanness and
organisation, which is making them a difficult side to beat.
But then from nowhere the breakthrough came, as Gallagher
fired home from close range to make it one, nil. Soon it was
two as Cummins turned in Alsop’s cross at the far post.
It remained that way until the break.
The second half was even more one sided than an Inter Versus
Arsenal match, as Thrapston created chance after chance, taking
some, and missing plenty. There was one more for both Cummins
and Gallagher, his second being a volley from fully 30 yards,
which flew into the top corner, before a late brace from Alsop
completed the route.
Three wins from three. Thirteen goals scored and only one
conceded. These are heady days indeed at Weekly Glebe. Final
score Thrapston six, Aztec Braves Nul.
