The got back to winning
ways beating Grange United A 4 - 1.
Last time these 2 teams met, Thrapston were at the wrong
end of a 3-0 scoreline. The team new the game was going to
be hard today, plus they were missing the defensive qualities
of Josh Scarbrow due to injury.
The game started brightly with Thrapston kicking down hill,
and with the wind. A very cold wind at that.
The managers request for Sam Gallagher to do a man marking
job on the Grange No 9, was working well, and was helping
to snuff out any early threats. The first goal of the game
went Thrapstons way, but was somewhat a fluke. A dead ball
across the box was fumbled by the opposing keeper and deflected
into his own net. Shortly after another cross from the right
hand side was met by Luke Rivett for an easy tap in and a
2-0 half time lead.
Uphill and against the wind in the 2nd half made things more
difficult. This gave Grange some hope and their attacking
play became more decisive. Connor Morson worked hard, and
was equal to the charges down the flanks, Alex Vitue had safe
hands, and was first to the ball in several 1 on 1's.
A short throw followed by a cross from Tom Alsop, evaded everyone,
including the Grange keeper to rest in the back of the net.
Soon after the re-start a break through the centre found Liam
Toon with a 1v1 against the Grange keeper, and he cooly slotted
home. This was champagne stuff, and several more chances went
begging from crosses into the box. Late on with Thrapston
pushing for more glory, a break from Grange found the Thrapston
defence outnumbered.
The ball was slid through to the Grange No 9, who volleyed
past the oncoming Thrapston keeper. A consolation for Grange,
but deserved for their effort and sportsmanship throughout
the game.
Final score : Thrapston 4 Grange United A 1.
