The lost against Ise
Lodge Eagles 0 - 2.
After last weeks draw against the Eagles, in which Thrapston
were unlucky not to take all the points, they entered this
return match confident of success. However, the Manager’s
squad rotation system was to prove their downfall as they
crashed to a two nil defeat.
Missing Morson, Gallagher and Alsop from the starting line
up, Thrapston started the brighter team, in difficult conditions,
heavy underfoot. Chances came and went for Liam Toon, Jordan
Bateman and Josh Cummins, as Thrapston asserted their authority
on the first half. Not for the first time this season they
would be left ruing missed chances as they went in to the
break all square.
The second half saw Luke Rivett come on for his Thrapston
debut, and the opening exchanges were fairly even, with Goalkeeper
Alex Vitue continuing his good run of form in goal, coming
off his line on several occasions to snuff out an Eagles attack.
Eagles took the lead from a well worked move midway through
the half, exposing Thrapston’s slowness to get back
and cover, having lost the ball deep in Eagles territory.
Eagles then missed a penalty, harshly given for handball.
Sensing a chance to get back and draw the game Thrapston
pushed forward. Again there were chances for Bateman, Cummins
and Toon, which unfortunately weren’t converted. For
the last five minutes, Tom Alsop, was sent on to try and rescue
a point, which he nearly did after a run and shot, but like
everything other attempt, this too failed to convert in to
a goal as it flashed past the far post.
To rub salt into Thrapston wounds, Eagles scored a second,
in the last minute.
A good battling performance from Thrapston, which was spoilt
only by an inability to convert chances into goals. Success
in the second half of the season will depend on putting this
right, whilst at the back they remain a solid unit.
Final score, Ise Lodge eagles two, Thrapston Nil.
