The lost 3 - 0 to Aztec
Warriors.
Thrapston went into this game in apprehensive mood, after
a few poor performances in recent weeks, as they came up against
the undefeated Warriors side, with only pride to play, for
given their mid table berth. (A bit like United Versus Arsenal,
I guess)
The first half was played in excellent spirit, with both
sides trying to play passing football. The excellent Warriors
side, were often able to carve open the Thrapston defence
with a deft pass, or flick into space, while Thrapston countered
this with hard work, as well as a few good passing moves of
their own.
The difference in the first half was the big number 15 for
Warriors, who scored with two fierce drives from outside the
box, but Thrapston had chances to score, with Liam Toon, and
Tom Alsop going close. Half Time, Thrapston Nil, Warriors
Two.
The second half was played in similar vein to the first:
good passing, and movement from both sides which created a
match which was enjoyable to watch. Thrapston’s best
move of the match was created following sweet interplay between
Alsop & Toon which released Luke Rivett, whose shot came
back off the cross bar.
At the back, Josh Scarbrow, and the effervescent Sam Gallagher,
returning from a winter break in the European City of Culture
(2008), were outstanding, protecting Alex Vitue in goal from
much of the pressure put on the defence by the Warriors.
Thrapston had several chances to get back into the game,
but fell for the sucker punch, as several legs and arms were
thrown at a Warriors corner, to no avail, as the ball ricocheted
in for an O.G.
This was a good match for Thrapston, although the scoreline
might suggest otherwise. Great team spirit, a high work rate
and some decent passing meant that the lads were able to compete
on equal terms with the best team in the league by far. More
of the samewill be required next week in part 2 of this double
header.
Final Score Warriors Three, Thapston Nil.
