With a 100% record in pre-season the Thrapston Town Under
9s entered the new season full of confidence. However, with
4 players making their league debuts, the talk in the crowd
before the game was of the side taking time to gel, and so
it was to prove.
The first half saw Thrapston push forward and camp in and
around the Falcon’s box. Josh Cummins and Tom Alsop
had excellent chances to open their accounts for the season,
but were denied by a combination of poor finishing and good
goal keeping. As if to prove the old adage that you need to
score when you are on top, Falcons then scored following a
defensive mix up to go into the break 1:0 up.
After the break, the debutantes, Harvey Chandler Abbott,
Liam Toon, and Jordan Davies were thrown on, as Thrapston
continued to pile forward in wave after wave of attacking
football, with Sam Gallagher’s Riise like long throws,
causing havoc in the Falcons penalty area.
The equaliser came, when Tom Alsop drove home from 5 yards.
Next "super sub" Toon, turned in an Alsop cross
for number 2, before making the game safe with his second,
and Thrapston’s third. Falcons never threatened the
home goal in the second half, and special mention should go
to Josh Scarbrow, who was outstanding on his debut.
All in all a great start to the season.
