The Under 13's gained their first
points of the season beating Kettering Generals 5 - 4 at home.
Thrapston got off to a flying start leading 3 – 0 after
5 minutes, two goals by Stephen Broom, and one from Kai Robinson,
a long range effort. Generals battled back but it was Thrapston
that extended their lead through a long range, looping shot
by Ryan Gavin. Almost immediately Kettering broke down the
left, and a good cross was finished by the striker. Half time
4 –1.
The second half saw Thrapston on the rack for
the first 15 minutes, with Kettering clawing their way back
in the game with two quick goals. Shortly after the equaliser
came and it looked like Generals were going to sneak the points
as Thrapston’s defence went to pieces. Some good work
down the right by Michael Cooke followed by a drag and turn
by substitute Martin Robinson on the edge of the penalty area
left him clear. A pinpoint pass picked out Craig Mattingley
who scored from close range giving Thrapston the lead once
more. Generals pushed for the levelling goal, but couldn’t
finish their chances. A very entertaining game. Final score
5 – 4.
