Thrapston Town Blue 2 vs Weekly Purple 1
On a glorious morning in Kettering, the venue could have
been different with the vivid colours of yellow and green
from the Daffodils, and lush grass.
A canary could be heard singing in the background, a mother
watching another game shouting “ lets be having you,
come on “. What sort of recipe could Thrapston cook
up today, after convincingly beating the same team earlier
in the season. Bereft of the holidaying Toon, and the ill
Gardener ( get well soon Chris ), kick off was delayed from
an earlier match being late – Why why why Delia, the
town manager hummed with a broad smile. Early play saw an
evenly matched midfield, with Alsop seeing plenty of the ball
but quickly being surrounded by 3 or 4 Weekly players. The
early chances and resultant goals came Thrapstons way, the
first a bullet header from Gallagher from a fine Chandler-
Abbott corner. Within minutes a speculative lob by Alsop went
unseen by the Weekly keeper until it flew over his head into
the back of the net. As always further chances came, and in
current mancunian fashion ( the red half ) went. With minutes
to go of the half, misjudgement by Scarbrow and Bateman in
defence, let in a Weekly forward to tap past the keeper.
Half time 2-1
Early attacking in the second half, saw Thrapston under pressure,
but this time the strength of our trio, Scarbrow, Bateman
and Vitue, held out everything. Down at the other end, chances
fell to Alsop, a screamer from King that hit the post, and
later in the game to Robinson. None were converted, and Thrapston
gamely held on for a narrow victory.
Some great displays today from the team, and Thrapston go
into next weeks game against Weekly Purple, hoping to turn
around the defeat earlier in the season.
