Thrapston Under 10 Blue Vs Grange United A
And so, as summer fades to memory, we return refreshed to
the Glebe, full of expectation, excitement, but above all
hope for the season ahead. With a new squad, a blend of youth
and experience, could, we wondered, this New Order give us
many a Blue Sunday this season. Bedecked, resplendent in new
kit, and raring to go - Forza Azzuri!!!
And so, with Vitue as Zoff, Gallagher as Gentile, Scarbrow
as Baresi, Bateman as Maldini, Toon as Totti, and Alsop as
Rossi, ready to launch their Scudetto challenge, assisted
this season with a number of new signings including Matthew
Tardeli King, who made his debut today, the Azzuri approached
the game in confident mood. However, for all the talk of change
over the summer, as sure as the sun rises in the east, the
pope in always catholic, and the bears do what they do in
the woods, it would turn out to be “as you were”
in the goal scoring stakes.
The first half started brightly for Thrapston, with good
link up play in midfield from Chandler Abbott, (making his
second debut for the club, having returned on a free in the
summer) the redoubtable Sam Gallagher, and Liam Toon who looked
comfortable in a midfield berth with Tom Alsop, pushed into
a more advanced role. Thrapston created numerous chances only
to see them well saved, blocked or narrowly miss in a half
dominated by the Town.
The with 2 minutes to go in the first half, an under hit
goal kick was seized upon and Alsop slide the ball back past
a scrambling keeper to make it 1:0. Very soon afterwards,
Alsop made it two with a strong shot from 15 yards. Two nil
at half time was a fair reflection on the balance of play
with Vitue in goal touching the ball only once throughout
the half.
The second half was more of the same, despite Thrapston battling
both the slope and a strong breeze. Chances came and went
for Thrapston, before Man of the Match Chandler-Abbott unselfishly
released Alsop with a slide-rule pass and he made no mistake
when one on one with the keeper.
And that’s how it ended. A good start to the season,
with hard work, good passing and teamwork. The team can look
forward to the season with confidence, but must maintain the
work ethic they displayed today to have real success.
Final score, Thrapston Town three, Grange Utd A Nul.
