Kettering General Red 1 – Thrapston Town
Blue 6.
A gloomy morning beckoned at the central weekly venue, with
the clouds ready to burst and the pitches cutting up.
Yes, whatever the result, there would be plenty of washing
machines on this aft, and you could guarantee that Persil
would benefit.
The match started with the Town kicking down the hill, and
a Bold display they gave in a first half that saw good passing
and great finishing.
Yes, this was the team at its best, and it was great to see
the defensive trio of Scarbrow, Gardener and Vitue in goal,
back to their best with great displays from all.
The first goal came from a corner, the ball bobbling about
in the box, until a generals defender put through his own
net.
A tap in and an individual goal from Alsop ( his 14th and
15th of the season made it 3-0 soon after, before man of the
match Chris Gardener got in on the action with the 4th.
The fifth goal was a dream, pure Wimbledon some might say.
A long goal kick from Vitue took a good Bounce over the heads
to Alsop . 2 steps towards goal and a short pass across the
box to Gardener who smashed home into the top corner. The
Ariel shot on sky sports would have looked great.
A 5-0 half time lead was more than Thrapston could have dreamed
of, but it wasn’t all our own way. The usual ruggedness
of Gallagher in Midfield, supported by Bateman , Toon and
the impressive Matthew King helped cull the Tide of Generals
play. A few times they got through, with the Thrapston keeper
in good form to keep all at bay.
Wakey Wakey, the second half whistle had not left the lips
of the referee when a Generals attack left the keeper 1 on
1 , and the ball was slid home.
Could this be Craven Cottage and the second big comeback
of the weekend.
This was dig in time, and all worries of a collapse Vanish
ed after Alsop completed his hatrick and made the score 6-1
Thrapston.
Overall a Daz zling display from the Team who can take Comfort
in their current record of Played 6 , Won 4 , Drawn 1 Lost
1.
