Thrapston Town Blues vs Aztec Braves
The end of long campaign, which started in September, with
a squad full of hope and expectation, ended today largely
with those expectations fulfilled and reputations enhanced,
as the players put in one of their best performances of the
season to see it out in style.
This game started in a now familiar pattern; Thrapston on
top, but letting good chances go begging. But, if you create
enough chances, then you’ll usually convert enough of
them to win the game, as today proved. Firstly Tom Alsop went
through to put the side one up. An OG made it two shortly
after, before the Braves asserted themselves on the game,
circling the Thrapston Wagons, before claiming a scalp to
make it two, one. Alsop got his second, as Thrapston went
in to the break three, one up.
The second half: more of the same, as the Town asserted their
passing game on the Braves and created a plethora of good
chances. Alsop completed his hat trick, and then got a fourth,
before Harvey Chandler Abbott “bent” one with
the outside of his foot in to the far corner from 20 yards.
Alsop added his fifth, to make it Seven before the Braves
got a late, late, consolation.
The rearguard of Vitue, Scarbrow, Bateman and Gallagher did
their job excellently today, as they largely have all season,
to make life difficult for the opposition, While Man of Match
Liam Toon, Ben Robinson and Matthew King played as well as
they have all season in more advanced positions. Down the
middle, Alsop’s goals (which made it 39 for the season)
were again a main difference between the sides, while Chandler
Abbott’s creative link play provided options for the
side going forward.
Finally, it was good for everyone to see Chris Gardener at
the match today, recovering from a recent bought of ill health.
Get well Chris and fighting fit for the new season!!
Well done lads – enjoy the summer!!!
Final score Thrapston Town Blue seven, Aztec Braves two.
