Ise Lodge Falcons 0 - Thrapston Town Blue 1
It only takes a second to score a goal, as the
much missed Brian Clough once told us. Unfortunately, 2,283
of these passed agonisingly for Thrapston today, before they
grabbed a desparate winner, two minutes from time.
Thrapston started the game in poor fashion, with a back pass
picked up by Keeper Vitue, and penalised with an indirect
free kick eight yards from the goal line. The kick was fortunately
wasted by the Falcons, as a blue and yellow mass, filled the
Thrapston Box, ready to defend.
Chances came and went for both sides. For Thrapston, again
it was a case of so near and so far (wide) as they failed
to convert short range efforts, but they kept going and their
effort was rewarded when a handball in the box brought the
award of a penalty kick. Step up Sam Gallagher, but he misses
as the ball rebounds off the woodwork – clearly an Englishman!
Half time, nil, nil.
The second half saw the game played in familiar pattern –
Thrapston in the ascendancy, but with falcons dangerous on
the break. Thrapston’s frustration was personified by
the midfield creative force of Tom Alsop, and Harvey Chandler
Abbott, ceasing to link, dribbling, turning, stepping over,
but crucially hardly ever passing. Chances came and went,
for Alsop, Liam Toon, Chandler Abbott, and Man of the Match
Ben Robinson. Increasingly, it looked like the game was going
to end scoreless.
Then, a rarity, a passing movement. Chandler Abbott to Alsop,
whose aim was for once true and whose fierce shot went in
off the post, with less than 2 minutes to go. The relief was
tangible, the tension released in an instant. Onwards and
upwards, as we prepare for the Generals next week.
Final Score, Thrapston Town Blue one, Ise Lodge Falcons Nul.
