Thrapston Town Yellows 1 Vs Thrapston Town Blues
7
Local derbies have been in sharp focus recently; first on
Merseyside as The Reds proved that form is temporary, but
class is permanent as they eased past their blue dissentients,
and then secondly with the Milan giants, Inter and AC, the
Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, drawn together in the Champions
league quarter finals. In Thrapston, these events have taken
a backseat amid feavoured anticipation of the local derby,
as the Azzuri prepared to take on Le Aquile Dorate in the
Battle of Thrapston, match day 2.
The Yellows came in to the match in confident mood, having
secured fine victories in two of their last three outings
with goals aplenty from Mssrs Burton & Rivett, while the
Blues were looking for a return to form following defeat in
their last match 3 weeks previously, when they displayed an
inconsistency even Rafa Benitez would have found difficult
to explain away. But that was then and this is now. Form counts
for nothing in derby matches, and so the protagonists locked
horns for the final time this season, eager to stake their
claim. Il calcio d'inizio, Kick off, the tifosi expectant.
The Yellows started the match in full flow and the Blues
where they left off 3 weeks ago. All the passing was coming
from the Yellows, while the Blues struggled and bunched. It
was no surprise when the Yellows took the lead with under
4 minutes on the clock, Lewis Burton finishing off a good
move involving the effervescent Luke Rivett. Morson, Cummins
and Noakes were fighting for every ball, making every tackle
count. No pushovers here!
Ever so slowly, the Blues began to realise their potential
for the pass and move game, and as a result came more and
more in to the match. A good move down the right saw Harvey
Chandler Abbott slide the ball across for Tom Alsop to level
things up.
Next up was Liam Toon who finished another neat move to give
the Blues the lead, and Jordan Bateman made it three moments
later. The relief in the Blue camp was almost tangible, as
the half time whilst blew.
In the second half, The Blues Il attaccante grande, Alsop
completed his hat trick and secured the man of the match accolade,
although Josh Scarbrow, il libero, was playing just as well
at the back, to deny the Yellow attacks. Ashley Fawcett in
the Yellow goal made some good saves to keep the score down,
with one particularly fine tip over from a Chandler Abbott
drive. However, goals by Chandler Abbott, and another from
Bateman put the Blues 7:1 up, before Rivett got a late reward
for the Yellows.
And so the match ended with a flattering score line for the
Blues. The Yellows can however content themselves in the knowledge
that they gave them a big scare and were able to match and
indeed surpass them for long periods in the first half. From
the club perspective, what can be observed are the foundations
of a strong squad being laid for next season, and the step
up to 11-a-side football. In no way will the Blue squad dominate
next year’s first eleven!
The Liverpool fans in the respective squads can now look
forward to the Champions League quarter final with Juve, In
Memoria e Amicizia on Tuesday night. The United fans? They
can look forward on Wednesday to um, Coronation Street.
Arrivedici!
