Thrapston Town Blues 3 Vs Grange United A 0
As another Sunday comes, a new dawn fades to a cold morning
with still, damp atmosphere and we reflect that although ours
might not be a premier league or even a joy division, it’s
still a reason to get up early for a trip to the Glebe.
This was to become a day of the lords, as all of the team,
some of whom sometimes shadow play, and threaten rather than
actually doing it , emerged from the wilderness to form a
tight unit, and provide an insight perhaps to the future of
the 11 a side squad for next season.
The first half was a frustrating affair, with Thrapston in
the ascendancy, but finding it difficult to break down a stubborn
Grange defence. Neat passing is becoming a more regular feature
of the side, and this was to be the key to unlocking the Grange
defence, midway through the half. Harvey Chandler Abbott linked
well with Tom Alsop whose pass over to Liam Toon was converted
with minimal ceremony for number one. This is how it stayed
until half time the only mistake for Town, being an inability
to make greater use of the first half slope, and pressure.
In the second half, Ben Robinson got reward for his isolation
up the pitch, with the second, when he was played as the lone
striker, as the manager adopted a policy of any means to an
end to secure the eternal victory. Jordan Bateman and Sam
Gallagher’s interzone play kept Thrapston on top, and
because when he’s lost control Gallagher will always
fight to get it back, disorder in the midfield and defence
was kept to a minimum.
With Thrapston continuing to press it was only a matter of
time before something must break, and the killer move came
with 5 minutes left when Toon got his second. The players
visibly then took the transmission down a gear or two as they
played out time to secure a third straight victory.
For man of the match there were several candidates, but for
his two goals it went this week to Liam Toon.
An so with 9 games left we start to think about what we’ll
get when we mix the blue and the yellow next season –
not green as some commentators have suggested, but perhaps
instead a powerful new order capable of competing with the
best.
Final score, Thrapston Town Blue three, Grange United A Nul.
