Weekly Rovers Black 0 – Thrapston Town
Blue 4
Fine drizzle was falling as we drove to the match. Was there
a chance of a postponement, or could we get one or two sicknotes
this morning. After seeing what that did to Liverpool yesterday
we really wanted to avoid that. The conditions were boggy
so we expected an energy sapping game. The Weekly team have
had a good start to the season, so this could interfere with
the 5 game unbeaten run the Thrapston team have put together.
The game started at a pace, a swift shot from the Weekly
kick off going behind for a goal kick. The first five minutes
saw midfield battling with which Thrapston were generally
coming out on top. The defensive trio of Vitue , Scarbrow
and Bateman were agin looking strong, and between them were
dealing with anything that came their way. Sam Gallagher as
usual supporting everything they did as the midfield dynamo.
A few chances were coming Thrapstons way, and it was with
some skill that Tom Alsop rounded the keeper to slot in for
the games opener. The second duly followed after some great
play by Liam Toon and Alsop scored his and Thrapstons second.
Some tough tackling and decisions that could have gone either
way kept the referee busy. ( Good game ref ).
The second half got underway, and Weekly went on the offensive.
The town were under pressure, and it was only the good defending
and a couple of brave saves by Man of the match Vitue in goal
that managed to keep Weekly at bay. The storm was ridden,
and Thrapston found more composure. Good Midfield work from
Chandler-Abbot and King further pushed the ball towards the
Weekly defence. Several corners were won, and the outcome
of one of them was the break of the ball to Chris Gardner
who rapped home for his 4th of the season. Alsop completed
his hatrick with 5 mins to go after again rounding the keeper
and side footing home.
Final score – Weekly Rovers Black 0 – Thrapston
Town Blue 4.
Great game today from all the team that showed lots of effort
and passion. Hopefully the red side of Manchester can show
the same today and get the same result.
But me, I am off to IKEA, so will have to listen to it on
the radio.
