Ise Lodge Hawks 1 v Thrapston Town Juniors 3
Thrapston made hard work of this win and in a game that they
dominated, they only made the points secure in the final minute.
The first half was one-way traffic as assisted by the wind
and the slope, Thrapston laid siege to the Ise Lodge goal.
Despite numerous corners and chances the only credit Thrapston
could show for their account was a William Morrison strike
that sailed over the rooted keeper in the 20th minute.
Praise must go to the resilience of Ise Lodge who never gave
up, got men behind the ball and made life difficult around
the penalty box for the Thrapston forwards who rarely showed
the same spirit.
So the second half saw Ise Lodge with the advantages of the
elements. Thrapston still controlled the match but as their
inabilities to finish chances continued, so Ise Lodge grew
in confidence that they could gain something from the encounter.
So it was with some relief that Ross Munro gave Thrapston
some breathing space with a tap home from 6 yards.
Thrapston could not breathe easily for long as from a needlessly
given free kick outside the box Ise Lodge fired home to make
sure this game would go to the wire.
It was not until the very last minute that the game became
secure when Alexander Palmer fired home as the ball buzzed
around the Ise Lodge goal.
A wins a win and there were many good points in this display,
in a match made hard by a determined opposition who defended
in numbers. On the down side there was not enough commitment
in the opposition penalty area - Thrapston had the chances
to score a hatful of goals today but no team in this division
will let you walk the ball in!
