Thrapston Town Juniors 13 v Borough Alliance
Lions 0
Remembrance Day – you bet it was! Once the impeccably
observed minute silence was over then the rumble of combat
commenced and haunted by the performance of last week Thrapston
set about exorcising those demons.
So it took until the 6th minute for Thrapston to take the
lead as Caller scored his first of the day, so all felt confident
of another two to follow. Thrapston’s’ confidence
was restored and they set about business in a professional
manner creating many chances. Graeme Wright opened his account
in the 11th minute and again in the 23rd minute following
some determined and brave play by the rejuvenated Carter.
So 3-0 at half time was a healthy position to be in, but
really did not reflect Thrapston dominance of the match. The
first half, on reflection, was the softening up process; the
second saw the full onslaught of the destructive strike force
Thrapston possess. Caller in the 35th and 36th minute completed
another hatrick and in the 40th minute saw his dangerous cross
turned in by a retreating defender (definitely an og Ryan).
Then against everything that has gone on before (this season)
Caller scored his fourth of the game – we now entered
uncharted territory.
Time for the rest of the team to join in – Morrison
finished expertly with a low drive into the bottom corner
having had 2 practices earlier in the half. Super sub Palmer
crashed in another trademark goal in the 52nd minute and danced
his way back for the kick off. Quick bit of maths –
we were 9-0 up with 8 minutes left was there a chance of 10
to help our previously sorry goal difference, and the boost
of scoring double figures for the first time?
Caller duly obliged as Mr Va Va Voom with his new V6 engine
notched up his personal goal number 6, sorry quick re-bore
V7 and goal number 7 with the clock ticking down to time.
The goal spree however was not over, and in the last minute
Palmer power struck to complete the scoring, as he finished
most spectacularly from 25 yards (“too far out”
said Nev) as it rocketed into the top corner (assumed comment
was hallucinogenic reference from 1960’s and an expression
of delight!).
“Sublime” was a word heard uttered at the end
– we like that, we like it a lot. An excellent all round
team performance – the boys have shown great character
to bounce back from the disappointing performance of last
week. They have shown their true attitude, skill and commitment,
which must be this consistent for the rest of the season.
Perhaps the greatest site of the day was the smiling faces
and the group cuddle at the end - no mum was getting their
hands on them this week!
