Thrapston Town Juniors 7 v Vicarage Farm 1
There was more than a touch of the Arsenal’s in Thrapston’s
performance today as they cruised past Vicarage Farm in the
first round of the League Cup.
Thrapston took the early initiative but were rocked in the
3rd minute when the Vic Farm centre forward ran through the
floundering defense to finish with some style – not
a good early sign. In earlier games this would have heralded
a crisis of confidence and more goals against being registered,
but there are now signs of a steely determination forging
its way through the team. So just as Arsenal were stung into
retaliation, so Thrapston rolled up their sleeves and set
about totally dominating the proceedings.
Ryan Caller’s impersonation of Thierry Henry was sublime
as he ran the Vic Farm defense senseless and he was rewarded
for his endeavours with two quick fire goals in the 12th and
13th minutes. Thrapston confidence was supreme and they started
to purr like a finely tuned engine to play by far their best
football of the season, creating numerous chances from all
sectors of the field only for them to just go begging –
this was class. Just as the first half was drawing to a close,
Ryan Wright screamed in the third goal from 20 yards –
even Beckham would have been proud of this effort and it was
a fitting end to an excellent half.
So how do you follow a first half performance that had passion,
pace, discipline and oodles of quality – well four more
goals without reply and a lesson in total football does satisfy
the appetite.
Ryan Caller Va-Va-Voomed his hatrick (this boy only appears
to deal in hatricks!) in the 32nd minute, and was followed
a minute later as substitute Alexander Palmer Piresed his
way through the Vics defense to fire home. Lewis Godfrey sniffed
out his second goal of the season (being in the right place
at the right time is a great quality to have) and deserving
of his non-stop battling qualities. Alexander Palmer rounded
off the scoring in the 43rd minute securing his brace of goals
and entertained the audience with his trademark carioca back
to the half way line.
This was a most enjoyable performance that pleased everyone
especially the managers, and reaffirmed our belief that the
team has all the qualities needed to be one of the best. Everyone
played to their ability and the result was just reward for
the efforts put in over the 60 minutes and at training –
well played everyone and keep it up.
