Thrapston Town 3 - Corby Kingswood Kestrels
1
What a difference a week makes in football,
as the wheel of fortune spun through 180° and Thrapston
put on a performance that we all know they are capable of.
A hatrick from Ryan Caller confirmed Thrapston’s superiority
today as they ran out worthy winners in this encounter. The
scene was set from the first minute when Caller converted
his first chance to settle any nerves that may have been left
over from the previous week. Thrapston dominated much of the
play only to be thwarted by an exceptional goalkeeping performance
and shy finishing.
Just before half time Kingswood started to put their game
together and from a searching ball into the Thrapston area
a penalty was conceded that was taken in some style. So half
time saw the match all square when Thrapston could have been
in as strong a position as the Europeans in the Ryder Cup.
Minute one again, but this time the second half, and Caller
knocked in his second goal – it’s a good habit
to have. Thrapston invigorated redoubled their efforts looking
to make the game safe, but yet again excellent goalkeeping
and determined defending kept the game on a knife-edge. Nerves
were finally settled when Caller completed his hatrick from
the penalty spot following a handball.
Despite a scare as Kingswood hit the bar from a free kick,
Thrapston played out time to record their first win of the
season. An excellent team performance where everyone played
their part and demonstrated Thrapston’s footballing
pedigree. The hard work put in at training during the week
paid dividends and the character and commitment shown by the
team has set the standard for the season.
Thanks to the rake brigade who turned up in their droves
to prepare the pitch – we said we football supporting
would make you sweat! Also it was good to see some old friends
turn up to support the team – Dwane and Jordon Mahon
– mascots or what!
