Boro Alliance 1 v Thrapston Town 8
This weeks reporter was William "Wizza"
Morrison aided by Cameron Glynn!
It was worth the long journey to Market Harborough
as Thrapston picked up three valuable points by beating Borough
Alliance Lions 8-1.Even with a weakened team Thrapston managed
to dominate most of the play.
Thrapston struggled early on as Borough Alliance applied
pressure to a much-changed defence. However it was Thrapston
who broke the deadlock. In the 6th minute Ryan Caller (no
surprise there then) raced clear of the Borough defence to
net his 25th league goal of the season. It was soon two. Caller
turned to supplier as Tyrone Love sneaked in at the far post
to score his first goal of the campaign, after a lovely dummy
by Wizza (William Morrison).
Man Of The Match, Graeme Wright, made Thrapston's lead comfortable
with a great cross that was tipped only to John Davies, who
finished one of the many brilliant moves by Thrapston. Thrapston's
defence, lead by Cameron Glynn, controlled Borough's attack,
halting every move that was thrown at them. Thrapston did
not have to wait long for the next goal. Wizza executed a
defence-splitting ball to set up Caller for his 2nd goal of
the match. Caller completed his hat-trick, bursting through
on goal from a Liam Carter pass.
Showing great skill and balance, Ben "Percy" Durrant,
capped off a marvellous first half performance with a magnificent
chip that went over two defenders heads and into the path
of Love, well, that's what he told us anyway.
The team talk at the interval was the best we've had all
season. The managers were all smiling (that makes a change)
and so were the players due to the half time score of 5-0.
Thrapston continued the good performance with early pressure,
in the second half. A corner was cleared only as far as Love,
who spreaded the ball out wide, back to the corner taker,
Wizza. Wizza knocked a sublime ball towards the far post,
where an unmarked Wright volleyed into the net, past a helpless
keeper. Three minutes later, Wright won a penalty, due to
a push from a defender. Caller converted it to get his 28th
goal of the season and his 4th of the match, coolly directing
the ball to the keepers left and past his desperate dive.
7-0 might not have been the score line for long, if Borough
had capitalised on possession. Glynn had gone for a walk about
and lost possession and had tried to get back his position,
luckily Carter intervened and got the ball away. Five minutes
later, Thrapston were on the attack with Wizza. He played
a neat ball to Wright and carried on his run. Wright returned
the ball and took up a useful position. Wizza dribbled it
into the 18-yard box, but just at the key moment, the ball
got held up on the heavy pitch, and Wizza got the ball caught
under his feet, resulting in him spooning his shot straight
at the keeper.
Borough Alliance finally got what they deserved. A goal!
A move that was finished by there star man, from outside the
area. It eluded the outstretched arm of Matthew Hansord. Borough's
"Never say die" attitude had finally paid off.
3 minutes later, 7 minutes from time, Caller got his 5th
and final goal
Managers Comment - an excellent all round team performance
which showed great determination and commitment, attributes
not seen to this degree for some time.
