Danesholme 3 - 1 Thrapston Town 1
In the first of (hopefully) not too many wet
and cold games, Danesholme seized the initiative against a
Thrapston team hampered by injuries only just mustering the
minimum amount of players. Paul Spicker took the goalkeeping
duties standing in for an absent Matthew Watts; several other
players also found themselves in unfamiliar positions having
to cover for absent team members.
Danesholme created a few early chances one of which made
an early goal from a break through the centre.
Despite the early setback Thrapston came back with runs down
the left hand side made by Callum Vorley and Reece Evans,
which unfortunately couldn’t be finished. Reece had
another attempt just off goal after a poor clearance by the
Danesholme keeper.
Danesholme came back again scoring a second goal after a
goal mouth scramble involving excellent saves from Paul Spicker
and an off the line clearance by Patrick Goulbourn who was
then fouled by a dangerous “foot up” challenge
after the ball was cleared. Again Thrapston fought back with
Callum McDermott having a shot saved just before the half
time whistle.
It was obvious at this point of the poor standard of refereeing
with dangerous tackles flying in after the ball was cleared
going unnoticed. Paul Spicker, Patrick Goulbourn and Andy
Medway all finding themselves on the floor after yet more
unnoticed fouls.
This continued into the second half with Patrick Goulbourn
unable to continue due to the earlier bad challenge. Again
fouls on Paul, Andy Medway and several other players all went
unpunished.
Thrapston fought well with only 10 men and managed to recover
a goal when Kyle Fox jumped onto a loose ball dropped by the
Danesholme keeper turning and placing it in the net. 2-1.
It looked likely that Thrapston could even the score when
Carlos struck a free kick from just outside the Danesholme
area but the shot just disappeared over the bar.
Danesholme managed to score a late third goal when in a break
from their own half when their player could not be caught
despite the best efforts of Andy Medway.
The game ended at 3-1 and under the circumstances Thrapston
played well with the limited resources they had available,
with improving luck and a more observant ref lets hope they
gain a better result next time.
