Vicarage Farm 7 - Thrapston Town 0
The game kicked off 5mins early on a sunny but breezy pitch.
Thrapston got off to a good start through a long pass down
the right wing from Luke to Patrick putting the opposition
under pressure.
At this point Reece was unlucky to have a shot just off target
again putting Vicarage under pressure and forcing a mistake
from their keeper in picking up a back pass. The subsequent
free kick was a constructive quick pass to Carlos who’s
shot was just off target.
Thrapston were caught sleeping shortly after when Vicarage
pushed forward and scored. 1-0 to them.
Vicarage began to control the play attempting both long and
short shots.
Thrapston became hampered by players not moving / running
on and off the ball, not talking to each other, and simply
“hoofing” the ball up the field rather than taking
time to look for a better position. Vicarage took full advantage
of this and despite some good defending by Paul and precious
few good passes and runs up the right wing by Luke, Patrick
and Jordan, the half ended at 4-0.
The second half kicked off with Patrick being substituted
with Callum and player positions changed, however within two
minutes of the kick-off poor marking resulted in Vicarage
scoring again.
Jordan and Callum managed a couple of decent passes down
the right hand side and managed to move the play into the
Vicarage half however Vicarage were allowed to break again
forcing a throw in deep into Thrapston`s half, Poor marking
from a very good long throw resulted in a free header hitting
the back of Thrapston`s net. 6-0.
Later on in the game it looked as if Thrapston were finally
beginning to put some passes and movement together forcing
a penalty when Carlos was fouled just inside the penalty area
however this was proving not to be Thrapston`s day when the
penalty only managed to hit the post.
The game ended at 7-0 to a dominating Vicarage who kept control
of most of the game. Thrapston`s thinking and movement must
get better in future if we are to turn this early setback
around.
