Rushden Rangers 4 - Thrapston Town 3
Despite having a full squad of 15 Players to
choose from, with some turning up an hour sooner than they
needed (you always get one every year the hour changes!!)
Rushden Rangers made the early running.
In one of Rushden Rangers early breaks in the game, resulted
in a penalty was awarded to them when their player was bought
down. Luckily for Thrapston they managed to avoid going 1-0
down early on when the penalty went wide of the post.
Jordon Ward made the first of what was to be many quality
runs through the middle laying the ball off to one of his
team mates and pushing play forward, however Thrapston found
it difficult to finish the ball from there-on.
Rushden Rangers had many breaks down the centre and right
wings find little opposition but unable to finish with many
shots ending up wide of the post or saved by another excellent
goalkeeping performance by Matthew Watts.
Reece Evans made a break down his favoured right hand wing
despatching a shot just outside the penalty area and (in all
fairness) against the run of play at this point scored, putting
Thrapston in the lead 1-0.
Rushden Rangers came back with many shots just off target
but inevitably got the equaliser shortly after. The pressure
was kept on by RR resulting in a second goal just before the
half time whistle.
The second half started with no changes to the line up. Thrapston
appeared to go “up a gear” with a half shot from
Reece find its way to Jordon, who’s shot was punched
away by the keeper but only as far as Luke Cottage who hit
the ball cleanly over the RR keeper giving him no chance,
2-2.
However RR were allowed to re-gather and promptly scored
to put themselves back in the lead 3-2. Thrapston equalised
again shortly after with RR scoring again to make the game
4-3.
Despite Thrapston`s best efforts and some defending under
pressure from Andy Medway, Paul Spicker and Mathew Watts.
Thrapston could not find the equaliser and the game ended
at 4-3 to RR.
