Corby Ravens 5 - Thrapston Town 1
Corby Ravens got off to a good start on the
first of “cold weather” matches.
They spotted a gap in the middle of Thrapston`s defence normally
covered by Andy Meadway (Andy was sub) pushing good balls
through twice in quick succession but luckily not finishing
on target. Some good saves once again from Matty saving early
chances.
A Ravens corner was well cleared by Paul onto Luke leading
to the first of a positive series of passing combinations
between Luke, Jordon and Patrick. However Ravens did manage
to gain better possession than Thrapston resulting in many
chances both on and off target. This eventually led to an
inevitable Ravens goal that was disallowed for offside.
Corby had the upper hand by being able to quickly gain possession
when the ball was lost, set pieces and the ability to break
quickly and positively. Hardly surprising then when Corby
scored from a free kick quickly passed to another team member
who scored from just inside the area 1-0.
More goals were conceded when again Corby were allowed to
break through the middle and managing to string a set of passes
from the half way line all the way to the goal 3-0.
A rare passing break by Thrapston resulted in the first league
goal of the season scored by Reece helped by passes from Paul,
Jordon, and Patrick. 3-1.
Shortly after starting the second half it became clear that
Andy Medway needed to be brought on to strengthen Thrapston`s
defence as Corby scored an all too familiar passing goal (4-1)
and to close down the middle of the field which was favouring
the Corby forwards, this was done at the expense of a forward
player, surprisingly despite having an excellent game Patrick
was chosen as the person to come off.
The effect of the substitution was soon felt with more balls
being hit forward by Andy but to a weakened set of forwards
who were never able to finish with a goal despite several
good attempts.
The game ended with another last minute goal from Corby,
the end result being 5-1.
