Thrapston Town 0 - Burton Youth 4
With almost a full team present and the King
John School pitch now repaired hopes were that Thrapston could
turn around their recent run of results. Jordan Ward, Andy
Bird and Callum Vorley were left on the bench.
Early pressure from Burton Youth coupled with initial poor
positioning resulted in Burton having the early running, a
break by Burton down the Right hand side almost resulted in
an corner had it not been for Paul Spicker`s quick ball control,
giving Burton a throw in rather than the more dangerous corner,
however the throw in was met by a Burton player who spun around
with a half volley giving Mathew Watts no chance, 1-0 to Burton.
Despite this set back Thrapston began to create some of their
own chances with forward passing manoeuvres from Patrick,
Luke, and Carlos coupled with some solid defending work from
Andy Medway and Paul it did look possible that Thrapston could
equalise.
The equaliser never materialised, but even though Burton
clearly had the better confidence that was demonstrated through
their superior passing ability, Thrapston managed to get into
shape and hold on to the game with a 1-0 deficit up to half
time.
In the second half Thrapston changed the line up by replacing
Patrick, Luke and Ryan with Callum Vorley, Jordan and Andy
Bird. At the same time Burton clearly had changed tactics
by making use of more aerial passing, the effects of Burton’s
new tactic could be immediately felt with a second goal to
Burton almost straight after the kick off.
Burton had three very strong breaks in quick succession;
the first break halted by the offside flag, the second with
the shot just wide of the far post and the third over Mathew’s
head and just under the crossbar, 3-0 to Burton. Another goal
came when Burton were allowed to pass the ball to unmarked
players.
Despite some late runs down the right hand wing by Jordan
Ward, Thrapston could not get into a position to threaten
the Burton goal.
End result 4-0 to Burton Youth.
