A good start to the New Year with Thrapston
gaining the wind direction advantage from the kick off at
a very cold and blustery Montague School pitch. The team made
the most of this advantage with many chances created and attempted.
An excellent strike from a long-range free kick by Carlos
dipped just under the bar but was just tipped just over by
an alert goalkeeper denying Thrapston a goal.
The half ended at 0 – 0 with Thrapston unable to just
find that finishing touch.
Several changes to the line up were made at half time to
prepare for the disadvantage of playing into the wind during
the second half. Thrapston were to cope well holding Weekly
at 0-0 even creating several chances by a returning Jack Rawcliffe,
Kyle and Patrick. With Jordan Ward playing well on the left
wing a supplying several crucial passes into the centre. All
credit to our goalkeeper Matty who also did his usual excellent
job saving several good shots.
Unlucky then with only a few minutes to go that Weekly managed
to steal the game with a goal from a well-struck corner that
was headed on giving the goalkeeper no chance. Despite good
pressure from the Thrapston team at the end an equaliser was
not to materialise and the game ended at 1-0 to Weekly.
