On a warm but blowy day Thrapston and Grange United met in
what turned out to be a very interesting match. The two sides
had met the year before but in the cup, Grange had won that
on penalties. This time it was a very different affair, after
going 1-0 up from a goal from Chris Meadway Thrapston sat
back
and didn't look like scoring again. But they somehow made
it to half time 1-0 up.
Soon after the break Grange equalized and then
scored to go 2-1 up. Then the home side pushed up and after
a goal keeping mistake they went 3-1 up. Thrapson soon hit
back with Chris Meadway scoring yet again finishing coolly
after a great ball from Michael White. Another goalkeeping
mistake allowed Grange to take a 4-2 lead. Sam Gough then
gave Thrapston some hope scoring with a great header from
a Chris Meadway corner. Now Thrapston looked more deadly,
Robert Blades had only just come on when he was set loose
by Jack Nicholson and he slotted home to make it 4-4. With
ten mins to go Thrapston had started pushing men forward at
every opportunity, it paid off when Michael White played a
beautiful lob which Ali Jones brought down nicely and slotted
it into the corner of the net. With five minutes to go Chris
wrapped up his hat-trick to make it 8 goals in two games for
him and 6 points out of 6 for Thrapston.
