The two top teams met on a windy day with 100%
records intact - something had to give! The first five minutes
set the pattern for the rest of the game with Thrapston attacking
with most of the possession and a physical but well organised
Rothwell defending. Chris Meadway was brought down with a
heavy challenge but appeals for a penalty were turned down.
Thrapston kept up the pressure and Rothwell looked dangerous
on the counter attack. At half time it remained all square.
The second half continued as in the fist half,
with Thrapston applying the pressure. David Cunningham scythed
down in the box for what looked like a certain penalty, but
again nothing was given. The game looked likely to end in
a draw when with 15 minutes to go, David Cunningham used his
strength in the box to retain possession from a throw in and
struck a shot over the head of the keeper. The final 15 minutes
was a little nervous for Thrapston as Rothwell attacked but
defence stayed firm. Final score 0 - 1.
