In a very hard fought close game against Hellenic Fisher
we suffered only our second defeat of the season. It was very
clear from the start that we would have to be at our best
to deal with Hellenic's long ball game. We tried to get our
passing going but always seemed under pressure from the long
ball. This approach led to their first goal- long boot from
the keeper which we didn't deal with and one of their players
helped the ball on its way into the net. 1-0. We then pressed
forward in search of the equaliser and just before half time,
Max turned and struck a fierce shot which their keeper just
managed to push on to the bar. Half time 1-0.
Second Half. We continued to try and deal with the high ball,
but found ourselves under pressure. Harry on for Joe, Scott
into defence.This proved more effective and we got more into
the game.Kyran on for the injured Charlie.Then from some slack
marking at a corner, Hellenic went 2-0 up.We were now chasing
the game and pushed forward, which left spaces at the back,
but resulted in a well taken goal from Harry after some good
build up play. Kern then kept us in the game with some great
saves as we continued to search for the equaliser.Then an
incident which could have changed the game, Max brought down
in the box - 'no penalty'. Hellenic then put the game out
of reach with a good goal from the edge of the box. Final
Score 3-1.
This was the first time this season we have spent a lot of
time on the back foot and by the time we had adapted to the
long ball,we were chasing the game and unable to get our passing
going. However we adapted well after going a goal down and
showed great team spirit. Great support from the parents,
we look forward to bouncing back next week.
