Thrapston started their second game of the season
on a high following last weeks result, however it wasn’t
to last long, with a well organized Ise Lodge team taking
control of the game from the start. Thrapston struggled to
keep hold of the ball and very rarely managed to get out of
their own half. However some stout defending from Man of the
Match Niall Mitchell and Jamie Gambrell frustrated the opposition
and managed to prevent any early goals, however halfway through
the first half a silly foul presented an opportunity to Ise
Lodge and from the free kick the ball ended up in the net
via the Thrapston keepers hands. A couple of minutes later
Ise Lodge were two up from a good shot from just inside the
box.
Half time 0 – 2
The second half started badly with Thrapston conceding a
third soon after the start. Had the rot set in ?? One or two
players started to argue with one another but after a couple
of substitutions and some words from the manager the heads
rose again and determination set in. Tackles started to fly,
balls were being chased and a meaner Thrapston began to emerge.
With five minutes of the game left Declan Ward managed to
break free and after beating a couple of player slotted the
ball passed the keeper. From the restart Thrapston again managed
to win the ball and Luke Stevens beat the keeper at the near
post with a great shot from the corner of the penalty area.
Was there time for a third the crowd thought…………..unfortunately,
there was not, seconds after the restart the final whistle
went.
Final Score
Ise Lodge Kestrels 3 Thrapston Town Juniors 2
Managers note:-
An important lesson should have been learnt here today. If
we had given the effort shown in the latter stages of the
second half earlier in the game the result could have been
different. The players have to remember to play hard and fair
and not to give up on what seems a lost cause.
