After three successive defeats where commitment and performance
of some players was to be questioned, Thrapston started this
game like a greyhound out of a trap.
Thrapston took control of the game right from the start and
pressurized Weekely, not allowing them to settle on the ball.
Within 5 minutes Thrapston were ahead when Jake Hankins, who
had pushed forward, passed a neat through ball to Luke Stevens
for him to score his ninth goal of the season. Thrapston harried
and chased every ball as if their lives depended on it and
were rewarded with a second goal on 9 minutes when Jamie Gambrell
scored from the edge of the box.
Half time saw Thrapston make a couple of changes but the
commitment and work rate did not change. Thrapston continued
to work hard however half way through the half Weekly had
a number of good goal scoring chances but world class goalkeeping
by Man of the Match Josh Smikle ensured that nothing was to
breach the Thrapston goal. As Weekley pushed forward holes
appeared in their defence and Jamie Gambrell was to exploit
this, when picking up the ball in his own half went the length
of the pitch unchallenged before beating the Weekly keeper
with an unstoppable shot. Thrapston closed the game with a
fine fourth goal from a low shot by Declan Ward.
Managers note: Without a doubt our best game of the season,
everything was chased nothing was given up and we played as
a TEAM. Well-done boys.
