On a damp misty morning Thrapston struggled to get out of
first gear and laboured for most of the first half. Only fortune
and some good defending prevented them from going behind.
The only highpoint for Thrapston in an otherwise dire first
half was a goalbound shot from Declan Ward which was well
saved by the Hawks keeper.
The second half started much the same even though Thrapston
were kicking down the slope, however the tempo began to rise
and Ryan Watkin was unlucky on a number of occasions. The
game changed when Thrapston were awarded a freekick. Luke
Stevens sent in one of his trade mark free kicks which found
the back of the net courtesy of a deflection via a Hawks defender.
This seemed to waken the boys. Substitute, and Man of the
Match for second week running Matthew Smith, then began to
torment the Hawks defence and his commitment and hard work
was just what Thrapston had been lacking for most of the game,
this seemed to rub off on the remaining members of the team
and all of a sudden we started to play football. The game
was put beyond doubt when Luke Stevens arrived at the far
post to poke home his second goal of the game.
This was one of those games you want to forget, we got out
of jail, and were flattered by the result.
