Thrapston Town 5 - Rothwell Aztec 1
Kick off for today’s game was delayed
for 20 minutes, not to allow for traffic congestion, but to
allow the worst of last night’s heavy frost to leave
the ground, before it would be safe enough to get underway.
Supporters huddled together for warmth – those with
flasks suddenly very popular indeed, as they braced against
the elements which were as welcome as Roy Keane in the United
dressing room.
When the game finally got underway it was Thrapston who looked
the more up for the testing conditions as a goalkeeping blunder
gifted them number one, duly converted by Luke Rivett. Number
two came shortly afterwards, when a Harvey Chandler Abbott
cross fizzed across the box and ricocheted off a number of
players with, we believe Jordan Davis, getting the final touch.
With 13 minutes gone it was three, as Tom Alsop headed home
a cross – Thrapston were flying.
That’s how it stayed until half time, although had
it not been for the effectiveness of the Aztec’s offside
trap, it would surely have been more.
Aztec came out fighting in the second half, and were more
of a match for the Town. However, they failed to convert any
of the numerous chances that came their way, and allowed Thrapston
to retain their first half buffer. The advantage was increased
mid way through the half when Alsop coolly converted his second
of the morning. Then came the goal of the match; Josh Cummins
out of the left, cut back on to his right foot and dispatched
a shot-cum- cross, Cisse style in top the far top corner of
the net.
Near the end with Thrapston tiring, Aztec grabbed a consolation
goal, but this did not detract from the win and the performance.
For the first time this season the team performed as a unit,
and got the sort of result that we know they are capable of.
Next up it’s the Corby boys in the Cup, and anything
is possible.
MOTM – Josh Cummins – for a strong performance
capped off with a wonder goal.
Final score – Thrapston Town Five, Rothwell Aztec One.
