Thrapston Town 10 v Rockingham Forest 0
That’s that then.
The side’s first season at under 11 has ended. The
highs and the lows will be recounted in another place, at
another time, but to round off the season in style was surely
a bonus for all concerned with the side today. Those hot dogs
and burgers tasted so much better following this resounding
victory.
The opening 20 minutes of the game saw Devante Hodgson complete
a rapid hat-trick as his pace undid the colts defence time
and again. But the Hodgson show was interrupted with something
really special:- a corner (picture the opening Liverpool goal
in Istanbul if you will, this was the same), the ball is swung
in from the left. Josh Scarbrow, a stalwart defender for four
seasons, but with no goals and very few forward forays, rises
majestically, and strains his neck muscles to power the ball
in to the corner of the net. The crowd erupts. Sometimes things
happen that make everything worthwhile – magic!
This looked like the signal for the party to start early;
Harvey Chandler Abbott majestically curled in number five,
to round off a great season in the heart of midfield.
Next up, Alex Noakes, as bereft of goals as Mr Scarbrow has
been up until now, looks up and curls one from 25 yards on
to the corner – we were in dreamland.
Sam Gallagher then smashes in number seven, Mssrs Alsop and
Rivett chip in with one apiece to confirm their position as
our attacante especiale for the season, before Josh Cummins
brought up double figures near the end.
So that’s it, another season over, and overall I’d
say the lads done great. We’ve competed with the best
of um, but the challenge for next season I guess will be not
only to challenge um, but to beat um, as well as completing
the victories like this, that give everyone hope and expectation
for what may come.
Until the next time …………..
Final score Thrapston Town ten, Rockingham Forest Colts Nul
MOTM - For that Gerrard like explosion of a header and his
first goal in four years, the MOTM award went to Josh Scarbrow.
