Thrapston Town 1 Vs Earls Barton United 3
Today was a game in which all the old football adages and
clichés came home to roost, so to speak for a Thrapston
side desperate for a bit of luck – “when you are
on top you must score”, “caught on the break”
“take your chances” “caught by a sucker
punch”, “gave away a soft penalty” –
all were relevant out on the hallowed turf of KJS today.
Against a good Barton side, Thrapston started well and had
most of the first half play until some defensive bad luck
let in the Earls for numero uno. Despite coming back well
Thrapston couldn’t get the goal back before half time.
The second half was in all fairness a lot more even, but
with Thrapston looking a little bereft of ideas in the final
third it was increasingly looking like they would be out of
luck. Then from nothing, a silly handball in the box and a
penalty awarded – two, nil. Soon after, a third –
a headed OG. Oh dear, had someone broken a black cats mirror,
while walking under a ladder on their way to the match?
To their credit, The Thrapston heads generally didn’t
go down, although a few looked like they should have got them
down a little earlier last night!! An Alsop effort hit the
bar, and finally, but too late, the town got a consolation
reward for their efforts when Luke Rivett scrambled the ball
home.
No time to come back, the game ended.
The best team performance of the season probably, despite
the result so something to build on as the side head towards
a clash with the strong Corby Kingswood next weekend.
Man of the Match. In a game, where the sum of the parts was
greater than the individual performances (does this make sense??-
Ed) the award went to Alex Noakes for a solid performance
at right back.
Final Score – Thrapston Town one, Earls Barton Utd
Three.
