Ise Lodge Falcons 3 v Thrapston Town 9
As the season winds down, so it seems that Town
are winding up – sharing the goals around and for parts
of the first half today it was, as is often heard on the terraces
at Rochdale and Halifax “just like watching Brazil”
with passing and movement, overlaps and other interplay that
when they do it, the side show they are up there with the
best.
Although ante post favourites for the match, having clipped
the falcons wings just two weeks previously, the side needed
to put the effort in today to get the reward out. This they
did in the first half in particular racing in to a five goal
lead. Firstly, Devante Hodgson doing what all forwards are
implored to do and following up to finish when the keeper
failed to hold a shot. Then Luke Rivett struck with another
well taken brace to leapfrog Tom Alsop as top scorer for the
season. However, Alsop got in on the act with number four
to level up the race for the golden boot, and the returning
Sam Gallagher notched number five just before the turnaround.
In the second half a rejuvenated Falcons side came back at
the town. The half time change to go three at the back looked
iffy, as several good chances were created. In the end three
were taken, but in between times Town extended their lead,
preferring to create rather than stifle their attacking ambitions.
Hodgson banged home number six and his second, Alsop grabbed
number seven, Lewis Burton converted number eight and Alsop
completed his hat trick with number nine just before the end.
A solid performance with moments of real class which created
numerous openings for the attacking trio, while the defence
largely remained resolute throughout.
So with two games to go there is everything to play for –
win the next two games and fifth is possible. Loose on Thursday
and we may have to settle for seventh – the difference
between first and second division football next season may
depend upon such things. Oh how we need the top goal scorer
to have to notch 25 goals to win that golden boot, and the
whole of the side to battle for everything come Thursday night
at the Glebe - let’s see where that takes us!
Final score Ise Lodge Falcons Three, Thrapston Town Nine
MOTM – Lots of options again today from back to front,
with the back 4 performing well, and the attacking DLT formation
again coming up with the goods. However, for a hard working
display in midfield topped off with a goal the MOTM was Sam
Gallagher.
